JAMES WALTER STABLER, May 30, 1945—August 3, 2024
James Walter Stabler 79 of Abilene TX passed away peacefully at Windcrest Nursing Home under the care of Hendrick Hospice on Saturday, August 3, 2024.
James was born to James Alvin and Clara Louise Stabler on May 30, 1945, in Bryan TX. He graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in 1963 and joined the United States Air Force shortly after graduation. He was discharged from the service at Dyess Air Force Base TX and went to work for the city of Abilene Water Department in 1967, where he continued to work until his retirement in 2007 with 40 years of service.
He married Julia Elizabeth Hampton in 1975, whom he met while working at the City Water Department. They were married for 48 years until her passing in November of 2023. For many years James and Julia were members of Brookhollow Christian Church, where they were very active and where James volunteered and helped in many different capacities.
James is survived by his sister Mary Ehlert and husband Terry; along with a son, James C. Stabler and wife Dianna; grandchildren Patrick and Cynthia Stabler, Christian King, and Nicole Harstan. In addition, he is survived many nieces and nephews and close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his beloved wife Julia.
A service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 9, 2024, in the Chapel of Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut St., with a burial to follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
