Linda was a member of First Methodist Church of Bryan, and previously a member of First Baptist Church of Bryan, Central Baptist Church, and Steep Hollow Baptist Church.

Linda was born February 23, 1945, in Bryan and grew up in Reliance. She attended Kurten School, Lamar Junior High, and was a 1963 graduate of Stephen F. Austin High School in Bryan. She earned a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Baylor University in 1967.

She began her career at Reicher Catholic High School in Waco before moving back to Bryan in 1968. She was band and choir director at Anson Jones Junior High School from 1968 to 1972, band director at Stephen F. Austin Middle School from 1974 to 1989, and band director at Bryan High School from 1989 to 1993. She then returned to SFA for the rest of her Bryan career. She was well-known and respected, and she came out of retirement several times for stints at Allen Academy, Franklin High School, Palacios High School, and Poteet High School.

Her bands won numerous first division ratings in marching, concert, and sight-reading, often winning the “sweepstakes” award. Her students also excelled in solo and ensemble competitions and earned spots in all-district, all-region, all-area, and all-state bands and orchestras. While her bands were successful, Linda was more than a teacher and a band director. She was a friend, counselor, and mentor, who taught real life lessons in addition to music. Linda was fun, and her students had fun. When she was not making music or teaching music, Linda loved fishing, crafts, traveling, and serving others.

Linda & I shared many things: middle name, love of music, property at Camp Creek Lake, to name a few. We were seated next to each other in a history class in SFA. I remember the day (after several days of absence) when she returned to class. Linda told me her brother had died in action (Viet Nam). I was so sad for her & her family. We also shared being married a second time with the joy/tears of molding additional children into our new lives. Bob was very supportive of Linda during their sweet marriage. Linda and I go way, back.  We became friends when she was too old for the Kurten School.  We had a great time growing up together and always being in the band together.  I am sure that she must have been a great band director.  She knew what we all liked as band members.  We also had a link between our dads who both loved to fish and Mr. Garner would often stop by on his way home to chat with my daddy.. My daddy was one of the ones who encouraged her daddy to learn esophageal speech after his throat cancer.  We all had a very special bond and Laura Jean, I too, remmeber Johnny being killed in Viet Nam.  There were many hurt hearts that day.  I'm so glad that we got to volunteer together for our 50th reunion. We missed you at our 60th, Linda, my dear red headed friend!

Kind, interesting information above. Mostly new to me. I did have a bunch of classes with Linda at Lamar and SFA. She was studious and fun to be around. In recent years I have talked with several of her former students and they spoke very positively of Linda.

I will always remember Linda from the Bronco Bank marching with her alto sax.  We shared many memoies during that time.  Lots of laughter was shared.  It was so great to see her at the reunions with that contagious smile.  She will definitely be miss.
