Charles was one of our first classmates to leave us.  It was hard to accept the news.  He was a neat guy.  Sorta' quiet, but very kind.  His daddy was known all over town as "Mr. Fix It" in the back of Caldwell's jewelry store.  I loved going in to say "hi" to Mr. Fling.  Charles was sometimes in there helping him and it was neat to have a friend my age in that fancy store of Mrs. Caldwell's.

Charlie Fling.  Good guy.  Good friend.  We'd play football on the Allen Academy drill field alot, and go "raid" the dorms (shacks) after school was dismissed.  He misjudged the curve near the old Whataburger on Texas Avenue, lost control and hit head-on into the big Mobile gas sign.   Tragic.  I missed him and remember thinking about him during graduation.
