Keith Brunk

Keith David Brunk, June 1, 1943—December 9, 2014

Keith Brunk, 71, passed away at his home in Bryan on December 9, 2014. He was born in Spokane, Washington.

He was a 1988 graduate of Texas A&M University. A retired carpenter and permanent substitute teacher for the Bryan Independent School District, he was a favorite of many of the students there because as a sub, he was a great story teller and could entertain them without being harsh.

Keith was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, during which time he received special recognition for completing the U.S. Naval School for Underwater Swimmers’ program. Following his service in the Navy, he became active in military veterans’ affairs for many years, having volunteered as a driver for the local Veterans Administration offices.

He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed bicycling locally, traveling on his motorcycle and camping extensively, and sailboat racing. In addition, he had a great passion for philosophy and chess.

Keith is preceded in death by his parents, Allan Hendricks Brunk and Jean Liberty McKibben Brunk, and a sister, Barbara Jean Brunk Carson. He is survived by a brother, Allen Brunk, and a sister, Debbie Brunk LaTour. His close friends, Colby and Jenny Henton, and their children, Colman and Chance, whom he regarded as his grandchildren, survive him as well.

A memorial service celebrating his life was held on Friday, January 23, at St. Michael’s Episcopal Academy Chapel, 2402 South College Avenue, Bryan. A private interment will be held a later date at the Central Texas State Cemetery in Killeen, Texas. Services were in the care of Callaway-Jones Funeral Home and Crematory.
